Training Requirements

The following links are useful for determining what training requirements are in place, checking due dates on continuing education requirements, determining when classes are available, registering for a class and learning how to become an Outside Instructor.

Training class fees are as follows:

$75 for 8-hour initial course of instruction (ICI) and Continuing Education (CE) courses for expired individuals
$150 for 16-Hour Category F, G, I and J course
$750 for 80-Hour Category E course

Course fees do not include certification examination fees.

Classes and Exams

Classes and examinations are held year-round in all regions of Texas. The Alternative Fuels Safety (AFS) department’s 8-hour classes are FREE for RRC certificate holders who have paid the annual renewal fee. The fee for an 8-hour class is $75 per person for new applicants' first-year training class and for uncertified individuals, including those whose certificates have expired.

CLASSES: Pre-registration is required for all classes at least 7 calendar days prior to the scheduled class. Classes may be canceled up to 7 days prior to the scheduled class. All classes begin at 8 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted. REGISTER NOW 

EXAMINATIONS: Exams are offered by appointment only at 4044 Promontory Point in Austin. Pre-registration is required for all examinations. Please register at least 7 business days prior to the date you intend to take an examination. Examinations scheduled may be canceled up to 7 business days before the scheduled examination. REGISTER NOW

ONLINE EXAMINATIONS are proctored by a contracted vendor of the Railroad Commission of Texas. Resources allowed during online exam(s) include the appropriate rulebooks and other documents provided by the RRC in digital format. Notes, study guides or other printed materials are prohibited when taking online exams. A list of available exams
