Holiday Office Closure

In observance of the Christmas holidays, Railroad Commission of Texas offices will be closed December 23-27. The offices will re-open at 8 a.m. on Monday, December 30 for regular business. Expedited Drilling Permits will be processed within standard processing times. If assistance is needed, please email Drillingpermits-info@rrc.texas.gov.

Scheduling of Mechanical Integrity Tests

Quarterly test schedules.

  • At the beginning of each calendar quarter, a computer program searches the RRC data system for wells that are due for a mechanical integrity test.
  • Computer-generated testing schedule is then sent to the operator of each of these wells.
  • Any successful pressure test effectively "resets the clock."

Types of tests scheduled.

  • Initial pressure tests on wells with new or newly amended permits.
  • Five-year pressure tests.
  • Annual pressure tests required by permit.

Time allowed to perform tests.

  • Initial test - 3 months.
  • Five-year test - months.
  • Annual test - months.
