Energy Education Workforce Initiative

The Texas Energy Education and Workforce Development Initiative seeks to bring together members of industry, academia and government to make sure we are preparing the workforce of tomorrow, today, to power the energy sector forward. Meeting attendees have included representatives from the Texas Legislature, Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Education Agency, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texas Association of Community Colleges, Texas Oil and Gas Association, Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association, Permian Basin Petroleum Association, Texas Pipeline Association, Texas Natural Gas Foundation, and several oil and gas companies.

Texas is the epicenter of what I believe will be the largest oil boom in the history of our country. As I travel the state and visit with folks across the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors of the industry, I hear almost universally that the biggest hinderance to this boom is a lack of labor. It is important for Texas to be a leader on this crucial issue to ensure the next generation understand the opportunities for high-paying jobs available to them in oil and gas.” – Commissioner Wayne Christian
